Ariana and the new Strand: or Desperate Housewife

{ contemplating having fun }

Ariana made a rare visit to the city. She came in to check out the Art Directors' Club for their Photographer's portfolio review. I wanted to go but I didn't have time. But I met her for drinks afterwards at Old Town. She was with Vivian. Lisa and her friend Ray met up with us. We had a great time. Ariana's been so cooped up at home with the baby that she was exploding to let off some fun. Speaking of big baby, check out her husband Alan's's web site. It's updated with illustrations from his new pop-up children's book that he did for Stephen King's The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon : A Pop-up Book. He did a beautiful job. I think his illustrations were just chosen for the Society of Illustrators Awards.

Strolled into Strand Books. For some reason it seemed roomier. The photography section was missing. Saw a sign [ Art / Photo section is now on the 2nd floor]. Whoa, I didn't know there was a second floor, and where did that staircase come from. The upstairs was bright, neat and spacious. I purchased a new monograph on the incredibe comic artist Chris Ware. Love his color palette and his hand drawn type.

I also bought this small book on typography.

Check out the book's accompanying website with info about thinking with type.
