Happy 5th Birthday Justin

{ polaroids shot on my SLR 680 }

We celebrated my nephew Justin's 5th birthday on Saturday. 5 so fast. Big milestone. He just started Kindergarten. Not a baby, not yet a boy. We had a party for him outdoors and it threatened to rain all afternoon but we got lucky. He had a great time. Especially with all the toys he got. A DVD player for the backseat of the car, and a steering wheel for some driving game. I gave him lots of hugs.
Afterwards, my sister wanted to take advantage of the 3% sales tax in the glorious Garden State. Shopping? I'm not interested. She said she wanted to go to the brand new Target. Target? Let's go. Everyone was excited about the one that opened in Brooklyn but few people know that on that very same day, a twin store was born near the Holland Tunnel. What an awesome place. It's has a Greenland, which I think means it has a grocery dept. Bought a bunch of houseware stuff, Calphalon skillet with glass lid, cutting board, salad spinner, dish rack, toilet paper in bulk and 30 packs of Polaroid film. I opened up a charge card to get 10% off. Rob called about some Tokion Festival parties in the city but I just wanted to chill. It was nice not to go into the city. Stayed home and saw LOST. They re-aired the 1st 2 episodes. So far I like it. Sorta like Land of the Lost and Jurassic park. Where are the SleeStaks? Then watched American Splendor on DVD. It was interesting how they mixed the actors with the real life people they were portraying. His super enunciating borderline autistic friend cracked me up. I liked his theme that ordinary life is plenty interesting enough to write about. I was inspired in how he saw his life situations as worth documenting and publishing. Kinda like blogging. Harvey Pekar, his wife and adopted daughter have a blog that they kept during the movie. It hasn't been updated in a while though. I didn't know that R. Crumb had such an impact on his career. Crumb reminded me of Phil. That's another documentary I need to see.
