I felt distracted all day. I had to leave early and skip today's jacket presentation meeting. My family scheduled a consultation meeting with a lawyer who specializes in Elder Law to help us with financial planning for our Mom. In order for my Mom to receive Medicaid, she needed to show that she had less than $2,000 of assets for the past 3 years. The lawyer came up with a plan where my Mom can get Medicaid and not have to sell her house. She can transfer the house to the rest of my brothers and sisters as a gift so that it'll be under our names. Sounds good. She mentioned another way to eat into Mom's assets would be to pay for her funeral arrangements up front. My sister and I were both weirded out by this. But I remember Steve mentioned that he was relieved that he did this for his parents. You don't really want to go through your family's grief and make funeral plans at the same time. The lawyer will get all the paper work together and make all the arrangements. What a big relief.
Afterwards, I needed to unwind. I went back into the city and met Emily, Marina and Mike to go bar hopping in the West Village. We were going to start at El Rey del Sol on 14th. The food isn't anything special but they have a great garden to drink margaritas in. But the garden was closed. So we walked towards Tortilla Flats and passed Barbuto, a cool looking restaurant with windowed garage doors. We were hungry so went went in. Ordered some tasty pork chops and had some wine. The waitress had scary buggy eyes. Walked across the street to Tortilla Flats but it was too crowded so we went to Magnolia's for a quick cupcake fix. Stopped at the Cubby Hole near Mike's. It had a nice neighborhoody feel with colorful ornaments hanging off the ceiling. The debates were showing on the small TVs but I couldn't hear it. Total Eclipse of the Heart was playing on the jukebox and a group of women spontaneously broke into loud enthusiastic sing-a-long. We were feeling buzzed and tired but Mike dragged us to another bar to see strippers. The place was beat and there were no strippers. I was relieved. Later. I'm tired. Maxed Mixssages.
