Shut down your engines, THE NYC TRANSIT STRIKE IN ON!
LeeAnn called me wondering how she was going to get into the city without having to walk over the Brooklyn bridge. I gave her some phone numbers of co-workers who also lived in Brooklyn. Maybe she could share a car or bike over the bridge.
Luckily, now I only live a couple of blocks away from work.
Walking outside, it felt like a Sunday. The streets were calm and empty. The flatiron was so quiet. A handful of people came in. Dana walked down a traffic free Fifth Avenue from Lincoln Center, Oceana came in from Queens by LIRR. Atsu biked over the frigid Williamsburg, and Adam hopped a cab from Park Slope. It wasn't too bad coming in. But I think going back home after a long day in the dark cold is another thing.
Today is so, so boring. Why are we here? I wish I stayed home. I guess stuff still needs to get to the Printers before the Christmas break. Christmas? It's only 5 days away and it doesn't feel like it at all. This strike is really going to F' up everyone's holidays. I still have to do my shopping.
My sister was going to crash at my place but she decided to walk home over the bridge to Queens. After an aggravating day, I rather sleep in my own bed too.
This day is so boring.
Karen stayed home so I called to see if she wanted to get a drink. Since it was just her birthday, I decided to treat her to dinner. We live a block away from each other so we met up locally at Blue Smoke. Ate some juicy St. Louis ribs, creamy mac and cheese and washed it down with Moscow Mules. Everything was great, including the thick moist towelettes and miniature sword toothpicks. A very nice end to a strange day. And only a block from home sweet home.
