In December, one of my oldest friend Angela had a baby boy, Christos. Incredible news. We were out of touch for 7 years but we've reconciled and been friends again for the past 2. She's an incredible and beautiful designer and I have to say that so much of who I am as a designer and a person comes from my deep respect and awe of her. We've worked on many projects and won awards since getting in touch again. She works along with her husband in their own design studio. While I've had lunch and dinner with Angela, I have yet to meet her husband. We talk over the phone and have a very easy joking friendship, but only over the phone. Schedules prevented us from meeting, but, I really didn't want to meet him. I was aware of his existence in theory and that was enough. But today he wanted to come by and drop off a late Christmas present from he and Angela and to finally meet me. I was a little nervous but we're friends over the phone. Turns out he's as cool in person as he is over the phone. We discussed the new fatherhood and all the changes in his and Angela's lives. The sleeplessness but uncontrollable love for their child. Juggling parenthood and keeping a business afloat. Wonderful news.
I presented him a baby gift. It was a black CBGB's T-shirt onesies, one piece, whatever you call it. He loved it but was worried that this was too nice for baby Christos to vomit all over. I think that would actually complete the baby Sid Vicious rocker look. Give him a faux hawk and a baby pin while you're at it. He then handed me a small box. It looked like chocolates. I'll open it later. But he wanted to see my expression to tell Angela. OK.
DANG! It's an iPod Nano. I almost cried in gratitude. Sweet gift. It was great to finally meet him. The man that married Angela. Not so bad a guy. I feel I gained another friend in my life.
