Sarah came in for a few days and we went to see the Edvard Munch show at the Met. I really loved it. Other than
the Scream and the
Madonna, I wasn't familiar with his other works. I just recently discovered
Vampire which is one of my favorite paintings. He was one of the first artist to focus on depicting the F'd up sides of human behavior. Envy, pain, fear, despair, futilty. Red headed beautiful women were always portrayed in a threatening power position. I was familiar with his loose expressionist style but he had some very tightly rendered paintings too. Although with his painting
Galloping Horse, I think I found the worst portrait ever painted by a "so called" master.
