Winnie

The city seemed extra chaotic today. Lots of people, lots of cars, lots of noise. Ugh. I had to go to work to finish my freelance job for Scott. There's no budget for art so I shot some setups with my digital camera. So far I like what's coming together. But I need to design fast. Cara's boyfriends in town and a bunch of us are meeting for dinner at Chinatown. Sim was already holding a table for us at Shanghai Cuisine but we had to wait for Rob's friend. We suddenly became a party of 11 which was too large for one table so we had to split up into two. We sat at the long table and the Saint Rose crew sat at the kiddie table. They tried to recruit Erik & Karen to sit with them but they knew where the cool people sat. We ordered everything. The best dishes were the soup dumplings, though I still like Joe Shanghai's better. These were a little too sweet. And the braised pork shoulder. So tendah. Owen inexplicably ordered pig's stomach but nobody wanted it so we passed it to Rob and Mike. Rob will eat anything. But this Mikey won't. Ha. Keep it. Afterwards we went to the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory for dessert. They had avocado flavored ice cream. interesting, but I tried pumpkin pie and coconut ice cream. yum. Then we went to Winnie's, a divey karaoke bar for drinks and to belt out a few tunes. Just don't piss off the Chinese gang members. No one was brave enough to sing on stage. So we just huddled in the safety of our booth and sang along with the other Carol King wannabees. A Tumbin' Down! A Tumbin' Down! One guy did a perfect imitation of Fred Schneider's LOVE SHACK. He really got into it. And from watching the video, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun...with other girls. Nice. Owen did sing along to I Will Survive from the table. He had a great voice. But he cheesed out when Mike and I got up to sing Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Mike hogged the Mike and I didn't perform too well. I was way too sober.
