Interpol @ MSG

Rachel and I met up outside of Madison Square Garden to see Interpol. Getting through 34th and 7th can be an ordeal on a regular day with the LIRR & regular NYC crowds, but then to add an event. I told her that I'll be the one wearing all black. But it wasn't a concern because as soon as I stepped out of the subway, she was right in front of me on her cellphone with her mom. We got past security and the inside crowd was thin. This is a huge venue for Interpol and we were early. I bought my rock Tee and pin. When we got to the ticket taker, we both nervously smiled and expected the other to whip out the tickets. Oh shit. Was I suppose to buy them? But nay, I got The Cure and she got Interpol. I told her that they must have your order on line. They did and in 5 miniutes we were in. Whew! I wouldn't have been upset but I really wanted to go. Especially since I've been home sick.
The opening band was annoying despite what the NY Times's said but Cat Power was beautiful. Interpol is not the flashiest live band. But their music filled the large space of MSG, their largest NYC venue. Especially the bigger sound of their new album. They sounded so powerful and awesome. Guitarist Daniel Kessler had his James Brown / jimmy-leg moves down, Paul Banks voice sounded vibrant like he really wanted to be there, Sam Fogler drumming was solid and Carlos D with his new "Deadwood" inspired look even blew kisses at us. And they looked snazzy cool. I need to dress up more. Especially in black. The only thing was the crowd was more Bridge and Tunnel than the Bowery Bar. Which was sad. Because I need More Goth Girls and Less Frat Boys.
