To help relieve my sinus discomfort, LeeAnn, (who has been sick for 8 weeks suffering with strep throat, sinus infection, bronchial infection, ear infection, and has been on 3 types of antibiotics for a total of 29 days but had absolutely NO diarrhea), recommended that I try a Netti Pot treatment. Hmmm. Maybe she's not the best person to be taking medical advice from.
Basically it's a teapot of salt water that you pour through one nostril and it irrigates your sinus cavity and exits out of your other nostril. In theory.
I happened to have one in my medicine cabinet but never used it. Until now.
I emptied the enclosed pre measured salt packet in the plastic Netti pot and dissolved it in lukewarm tap water. It's suppose to match the PH balance of your body. I inserted the tip of the pot in my right nostril, keeping my mouth open to breathe, leaned over the sink and tilted my head so that my right nostril was over my left. The contents of the Netti pot started flowing into my nose and after a moment that felt pretty long, started flowing out of my left nostril. A strange feeling. It stung a little and I felt a floating sensation. But really, I was just amazed that my two nasal passages were actually connected to each other. I saved half of the salinated content to irrigate into my left nostril. I just had to reverse my actions. Easy right. What a mess. I couldn't figure out the correct angle. It started dribbling out of the pot and down my chin and onto my shirt. I bent my head this way and that way and back again. I panicked and started drowning. Swallowing salty nasal water. Where is the elegance?
Although I taste like Thanksgiving turkey that's been brined overnight in a Kosher salt solution, I think it worked. I feel somewhat relieved. My nasal passages feels moistened and breathing is a bit easier. My advice, do it in the privacy of your own home before you take it out on the road.

Get well soon! And have fun with the Netti.
Or you can do what we do and just use saline nasal spray every night before you go to sleep. Much easier and less gross. Ugh, no teapot is going up my nose.
Ahhh yes, the nasal lavage - I have one too but it is different - you put "alkalol" in it which is an alkalide that breaks up the mucus.
