Billy's Bakery, Baby Uma

{ cupcakes, tin walls and tea }

Next monday is David's birthday. He's taking that day off so we decided to throw something for him today. Karen remembered that he loved Magnolia's Cupcakes. In this Sunday's Times, there was an article about two new bakeries that opened up competing for the Magnolia lover. I've been hearing about Billy's Bakery on 21st Street and 9th. Sarah, Karen, Mike and I squeezed in the backseat of a cab and went over during lunch. That section of NY is so quiet, but the store was crowded. A women was so anxious to squeeze past me to look at a cake. I saw that they made red velvet cupcakes. They were cooling on a tray, but they wouldn't be frosted and ready till 5. next time. We ordered 2 dozen of the vanilla frosting and vanilla cake and a few chocolate frosting. Two square boxes full of goodness. Mike wanted to eat at Le Gamin Chelsea across the street for Croque Monsieur and Crepes. There was a long wait for a table. As we stood waiting, we saw Marc, one of our photographers lunching with a friend. A pretty blond baby was walking by us. She looked just like a little baby Uma. I looked up at her father and it was Ethan Hawke.
