{ soccer field at 6th Street and Avenue D }
I finally got to see Emily play soccer. She's been asking me for years to go but they usually start too early in the morning for me. This one had a 1 PM start time that I could make. Walked over the 6th street pedestrain bridge to cross the FDR to get to the soccer field. They played in the newly refurbished fields with the East River and Williamsburg behind them. This all used to be abandoned lots until Erin Brockovich spearheaded the efforts to revitalize the area. She lobbied hard for corporations to donate their materials and manpower. The field looked great and the day was super gorgeous. Em was slide tackling, trash talking her opponents and made one offensive run, but her team wasn't doing too well. I was sitting on the bench roasting under the sun. Earlier in the morning I called Erin and she told me she was going to the beach out in Montauk. I wish I was there.
