The Dark Side of the City or: going to the burbs to see the baby
On Saturday, Marina and I went to visit John & Margo to meet their newborn son Aidan. We were catching the 6:22 to Port Washington. But first, I had to get a baby present. Space Kiddets is the coolest baby store filled with funky clothes and vintage toys. I don't know what baby's like. I didn't want to get clothes that Aidan would outgrow in a week. I thought a baby quilt would be perfect. I still have my blankee. Flipped through a bunch but finally felt the perfect one. It was soft and plush, blue and red, perfect for a boy and had robots on it. ROBOTS! I love robots. I would've loved this as a baby. I love it now. Then I spotted another perfect gift. A baby rock concert tee with AC/DC on it. Awesome. Except it was sized for 6-8 months. It's too big? You mean baby's are even tinier? But it was OK because I saw one with Pink Floyd's Dark Side. This. Is. So. Perfect. John's a musician, he'd get a kick out of it. Getting to Port Wash was so easy. It's the last stop on the line. Margo gave us overly complicated instruction on which end of the train we should be on and what stairs we shouldn't take. Just. Tell. Us. Where. To. Go. John picked us up in their new Silver Subaru. I was thinking of buying this car. Looked nice. We pulled into his driveway a few seconds later, so close to the station. The house was lovely and Margo was in the kitchen. Funny seeing people in their domestic personna. Their firstborn Spencer was shy. I got him a chocolate chip cookie from City Bakery to bribe for his affection. John poured us some excellent local L.I. wines that had some kick. Went to the basement to check out his drumset. Beautiful. Marina got on to do stick work. OK rookie, my turn. The snare sounded great and so incredibly loud. So loud that I became too self conscious. When you're playing the drums, you have to commit. You really have to pound the skins to get into a rhythm. Got some latin combos in. John was nice enough to say he was impressed. All that tapping on the table during jacket meetings sure helped. Margo's stuffed chicken was great and we shared desserts that we got from City Bakery. Chocolate and cranberry almond tarts. yum. They were such wonderful host and we had a great time. We then hopped back to the big city to go to a moving out of the apartment party. Em & Josh were there. We had fun busting on people. I got a Google blank book as a parting gift. Good times. But mixing drinks. not so good. Damn. snowing again.
