Tennis anyone?

Wanda in the mailroom had 4 tickets to the US Open Tennis that she was giving away for free. They were for today and they were worth $175 each. The matches have been going on since 11am and it was already 5. Capriati was half way through her match. We took the 7 train over. When we got off at the Shea Stadium stop, we saw that everyone was leaving. oh, well. Let's check out the place anyway. I haven't been to the new Arthur Ashe stadium since it opened. It was quite a space. stores, restaurants. It looked like Disney world. Once the US Open events are finished, this huge area and the courts are available to the public. very impressive. We did catch 1 match. It was girl's doubles. Some great volleys and points. Those young girls are angry. throwing rackets, being hard on themselves, but pulling it together to slap some skin and psyching each other up. One ballgirl was horrible, She kept dropping balls. This little girl in the stands had a giant tennis ball that was the size of a beach ball. all fuzzy and green. I wanted to get one but they were $85. Ker-Wazee! We left before the match was over because we were hungry. We went to Flushing to eat at NY's other Chinatown. It looks like a cool neighborhood. It seemed exotic and Canadian at the same time. Plane's were flying low overhead constantly. Noisy and slow, illuminated underneath by street lamps as they came in for a landing at LaGuardia. It looked very surreal, like a scene out of Blade Runner. We ate at the Forest Hills Joe's Shanghai. It was really good, but I still like the Manhattan Joe's overall. All of the newspaper reviews recommended that we order the crispy yellow fish sticks. It was bland, and we ate almost all of it and it was still bland. We asked the waiter if this dish was still popular because it didn't taste good at all. He looked at our plate and noticed that it was missing the pepper salt dip on the side. He brought it over in a small dish. Sim tried it and her eyes lit up. I tried a piece dipped in the salt and the flavors exploded. Damn. what a waste of taste. next time. But what a nice unexpected excursion.
